January is the month that everyone is always broke (well I know I am Hehe) so meeting up with my good friend Kirsty for day of cultural activities needed to be free and interesting. luckily I stumbled across The Vaudeville Hootenanny a lovely little creative event with a vintage twist being put on at the Zabludowicz Collection in Chalk farm. Also currently exhibiting at the Zabludowicz Collection is Future Map;
“Future Map is an annual survey show exhibiting the best cutting edge talent from the graduating year at University of the Arts London. Reviewing all the graduate and postgraduate courses in art, design, fashion and communications, an illustrious panel of industry experts chose works they feel best represent the next generation of creativity”.
We had a fun time having a little wonder around the gallery and we were particularly taken with work by Oliver Ruuger a London College of Fashion graduate. I pleasantly was surprised to spot some more of his work being displayed in the windows of Selfridges when I headed to Oxford Street later on that day.
The Vaudeville Hootenanny was a fairly small event but we made some very interesting discoveries.

We also met fledgling accessories designers Anastasia Fairs and Ugonna Heston.
Anastasia Fairs have not been around very long but the lady (I forget her name) makes the most exquisite and delicate floral accessories. We were particularly impressed with some of her hand painted clutches. If you want to check her out visit facebook.com/anastasia.fairs or her shop on Etsy.
Now those of you who read my post on New African Fashion will know that I am mad about Ankara wax prints. Ugonna Hosten makes the most delightful Ankara oilskin bags that are both chic and practical. The prices are reasonable and the collection displays a lot of attention to detail. If you want to find out about Ugo and her bags check out www.ugosboutique.com
If you have an interest in deisgn then the Future Map exhibit is worth a visit.
