Tiffany Blue cupcakes By Cupcakey

Those of you who read my post about my visit to the Millenium Hotel to watch Breakfast At Tiffany’s, will know how much I loved the tiffany blue cupcakes we were given. Nicky from Cupcakey who made the ones that we ate that day has kindly provided the recipe for all of us who want to make our own. So let’s get baking!

To make 12 cupcakes you will need:

8oz caster sugar

8oz self raising flour

8oz stork

Vanilla

4 eggs

Instructions:

  1. Cream stork and sugar until creamy and pale in colour.
  2. Add flour, vanilla and eggs and beat until well combined.
  3. Fill cupcake cases to 3/4 full and place in pre-heated oven – 160 degrees.
  4. Bake for 10-12 mins until golden brown.

There are two types of icing you can go for:

Butter Cream

250g Butter

500g Icing Sugar

Vanilla 1/2 tsp

Beat together for 5-7 mins (electric mixer or strong arm!). Use food colour paste, mix blue and green for Tiffany colour.

Fondant – available at supermarkets or cake decorating suppliers, colour to suit and roll to around 1cm thick.

pizza-east

With every Valentine’s Day comes an inevitable bad card. Whether it’s a droopy-eyed puppy on the front, a sickly message written inside or even a dreaded mystery sender, we all know what to expect on February 14th.

But rather than throw the card away or banish it to the depths of your drawer, Pizza East Kentish Town want you to celebrate the art of a terrible Valentine’s Day card by joining their three day card amnesty.

From Wednesday 13th until Friday 15th February, Pizza East  Kentish Town will be offering customers the unique opportunity to hand over their Valentine’s Day cards for a £5 Margerita Pizza and swap some emotional cheese for hot, stringy Mozzarella.

Located on Highgate Road in between Gospel Oak and Kentish Town tube stations, Pizza East Kentish Town serves rustic pizzas made from traditional, seasonal ingredients. All pizzas are made with a ciabatta-style, slow-proved dough that is made in-house every day.

So  friends, lovers, brothers and mothers head down to Pizza East Kentish Town and exchange those tasteless cards for a delicious £5 piz-za the action.

A review of Zorita’s Kitchen Spanish Restaurant, London

February 13, 2013

Zoritas Restaurant Broken Wharf

Zorita’s Kitchen, Broken Wharf

I wasn’t sure what to expect when Lanky Girl and I recently went along to Zorita’s Kitchen. Tucked away between Blackfriars and Mansion House, it’s not the easiest restaurant to find, but it proved to be well worth the wait.

Food and wine experts David and Louisa guided  us through a bespoke menu, sampling delicious cooked meats and cheeses from across the Duerto Valley. The ethos of Zorita’s Kitchen is on ‘slow grow’, focusing on the simplicity and high quality of food and wine served in the restaurant, and you can really taste it in the meats and aromatic cheeses.

There’s a real emphasis on quality ingredients, and the cheese is even made at Zorita’s Kitchen’s very own farm, all complemented by wines recommended by staff who really know their stuff.

The wines are definitely one of Zorita’s Kitchen’s selling points,  my favourite had to be the Hacienda Zorita Veiga de la Reina Verdejo 2011 (£9.99 plus a 7.50 corkage fee when dining in) which won best white wine in the world 2012 at the Concours Mondial Brussels.  If you fancy yourself to be a wine connoisseur,  Zorita’s also run wine tasting events.

As the area is mainly populated by business people who have little time to spare for lunch and may prefer to dine alone, I’m not sure how the heavy oak tables – designed to encourage a Mediterranean communal dining experience – will be used to best effect. However, with a new restaurant opening in South Kensington soon, I’m sure Zorita’s Kitchen will have scores of families flocking to try a flavour of the Duerto Valley.

Siro-A Multimedia Theatre Experience at Leicester Square Theatre

February 12, 2013

Last week I had the pleasure of previewing Siro-A technnodelic  performance artists from Sendai – Japan. Having won Mervyn Stutter’s Spirit of the Fringe award in 2011,  Siro-A are now making their London debut. Often described as Japan’s answer to the Blue Man Group, Siro-A perfectly fuse modern technology with mime, breath-taking optical illusions, movement and comedy all set to a pulsating electro beat. Spectacular  entertainment fusing video mapping, laser lights and on stage DJ’s to create entertainment for the next generation.

My favourite part of the performance had to be one of the few speaking parts which relate to the history of cast member Abe Toshinori. Also I was awestruck at the timing during the ball and box sequences. Siro-A’s fusion of digital and street dance is a undoubtedly unique and even if you dislike techno music as much as I do you only have to endure it for an hour anyway.

The experience we had is really difficult to put in to words except to say that you have to see it to understand it for yourself.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s Bloggers Screening at The Millennium Hotel, Mayfair

February 11, 2013

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of my favourite films so I was delighted to receive an invitation from Millennium Hotels to come along to a bloggers screening of the film. On Thursday last week I made my way through the rain to arrive at the Grosvenor Square hotel. The hotel screams one thing Luxury! I definitely would say that Audrey Hepburn’s character, Holly Golightly would have chosen to stay at The Millennium hotel  if she was visiting London.”

The Manhattan Suite at The Millennium Hotel Mayfair

The screening of the film was held in the hotel’s Manhattan Suite which had lovely terracotta coloured sofas, stylish regency chairs and a large cinema screen in the middle. We were welcomed with glasses of champagne (ooh lovely) and trays of canapes which I didn’t manage to get a picture of but included some lovely duck dim sum. Attending the event was lots of lifestyle/fashion bloggers mostly female so it did feel like a rather lovely girly slumber party.

We were also treated to Tiffany Blue cupcakes which I have sworn to find out how to make them myself. If anyone has a link to recipe let me know!

After mingling and nibbling we settled down to watch the film with popcorn and heart shaped marshmallows.  A very lovely way to spend an evening.

My favourite part of Breakfast at Tiffany’s has to be the opening  and when I was lucky enough to go  to New York Last summer I just couldn’t resist the chance to reenact the scene.

Lanky girl’s high street looks for Spring 2013

February 6, 2013

With the temperature creeping up a few degrees, I have been looking at items for the spring to add to my wardrobe. I love all the lovely bold colours and monochrome inspired collections that we are seeing on the high street. This season’s ultimate investment piece for me has to be a shirt dress, this is a versatile item that can be dressed either up or down and worn with leggings for when the weather isn’t as kind.

Check out my picks of great things in the shops at the moment:
